Experimental Maemo 5 UI: gPodder Episode Actions

With the Long Weekend just a little more than one week away, I though about doing some experiments with gPodder's UI. Some users want a quicker way to play/download/delete episodes instead of opening the shownotes window and using its application menu. Here's one approach I tried out today (I know the icons are pixellated and ugly - please consider them as placeholders):

The idea is that you click on an episode, and instead of opening the shownotes view, you get this selection screen where you can choose to play/download/delete the episode or view the shownotes. Of course there have to be some fancy animations, because that's what all the cool kids do today. Just watch the video on YouTube and tell me what you think in the comments here (especially in terms of non-standard UI and annying animations - seriously ;).

In unrelated news, headphoned 1.4 for N800/N810 has been released and pushed to Maemo Extras with support for Panucci and MPlayer for all your "public transport situation" avoidance needs.

I like the animation. Since I'm still waiting on my N900, I can't comment on whether or not it will be irritating compared to "normal" though. Standing on it's own though, looks good!

Its nice, but my personal preference would be to stick to the Maemo 5 guidelines, and just use the standard menu (I think it's called a button menu?).

I am not the biggest fan of UI "flashy", but if it's what the kids want...

I think it would make more sense if it was on the previous screen (the list of shows you are subscribed to). That way it works as a "quick access" to the latest podcast.

Oh, and if you are dis-obeying the UI guidelines, a play button on the show notes page would be nice (takes a couple seconds to think of looking in the menus)

I would suggest a slide action when an episode is selected similar to the App Manager. So when an episode is selected the screen slides left to another screen that can display the same four icons. A Back operation brings it back to the Episode list.

What about simply using the context menu? (pressandhold on item, get popup with the 4 possible actions)
Not sure if Context menu can hold icons, though.

My suggestion .. since playing the podcast is the most common action it would be better if you could play with a single click from the episode list.

Could the musical note icon initiate playing when clicked?

It looks good to me, but with all the space to the right, why not just have the 4 icons always present over there? Might look a little cluttered though, I guess.
